Commissioned Pieces

Yes, I do commissioned works. I have done pieces for all sorts of folks, including pregnant women. Here's some things you should keep in mind when considering a commissioned piece:

  1. I require a $500 deposit up front. This initial deposit is not refundable, as it goes towards the purchase of materials required to make the piece. The remaining balance will be paid in full at the time the completed piece is given to you. Total cost for a finished piece typically ranges from $900 to $1500, depending on total body area cast, the size of the final piece, and finish selected.

  2. With Raku firing no two pieces ever turn out the same... so be prepared that even though you may select a particular finish, the finish on your piece cand and will end up looking different.

  3. Bring your body, and don't be shy! The person I'm making the cast of will have to be nude or partially nude when the plaster cast is being made. You also have to be open to some amount of contact while nude, because I need to apply the plaster strips directly onto your skin.

  4. The process of applying the plaster strips and letting them harden requires about 45 minutes. The plaster does get warm as it sets up, and most casts are made with the individual standing. Consequently, it is best if you come well rested, and having eaten roughly a half-hour to an hour before hand. Then, a quick bathroom break when before we start, and all should go well.

  5. Note that it can be difficult to hold the pose for the required 45 minutes. I have had people overheat, get dizzy and even faint. To minimize the chances of this happening, please remember to bring along the following additional items:

    • Towels that can be moistened and applied to keep you cool.

    • A snack like trail mix to keep your blood sugar up and/or a bottle of your favorite sports drink.

    • Someone you are comfortable being nude around, who can massage your legs, cool you with the moist towels, and keep you hydrated and fed while I apply the plaster strips.
